It was inspired choice—spending July 4, 2016, morning walking the canals of Venice CA with an old friend (as I’m housesitting in LA for a bit). Residents were out, spreading red-white-blue picnic tablecloths in preparation for parties. They responded warmly to “Happy Fourth!” And this year, because of Hillary, I felt unusually proud to be an American.
It’s been years since I visited the Marina/Venice neck of the Los Angeles woods. The area, a few blocks from the ocean, now abounds in homes with architectural diversity, good taste, and even humor—capturing the eternal spirit of beach living. Yep, they cost multiple-millions now, but walking past and photographing them is still free.
Which is good enough for someone who’s not interested in owning property but very willing to admire and appreciate. Check out the pictures below:
Yes, on this Fourth of July it was easy for me to remember and acknowledge how lucky we are and to wish freedom for all, worldwide. Thank you, dear forebears, thank you.
